I'm a few days behind on blogging but the last couple of days have been so much fun. On the Fourth of July we started out the morning with Portobello Market. I love the atmosphere that comes along with street markets. So many people, so much energy all enclosed with antiques and fresh fruit and flowers. I love it. Also, while we were there I got the most AH-MAZING crepe. I have been to Paris and none of the crepes I had there even compare to how amazing this one was for some reason.
Once we were done with the street market we headed over to Leicester Square to look for some play tickets. The two plays that we all mutually want to see are "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Les Miserable" I mean come on how classic are they. So we found some Phantom tickets for about 26 pounds and holy cow peeps it was so so so worth it. I have seen so many plays in my lifetime and I haven't ever been so blown away with how amazing something was before. I truthfully was blown away and almost in tears the whole time. We saw it at "Her Majesties Theater" which just in the building itself has so much history..
After the play we were walking passed "The Book of Mormon" play and we were obviously drawn right over there as soon as we saw a bunch of missionaries hanging around outside of the building. As soon as we got even kind of close they go "So you guys are members huh?" and we go "Yeah, how could you tell?" and then they went on to tell us it is because how we were dressed and that seriously makes me so happy!! I'm way glad that it is so obvious.. We talked with them for quite a while. I turns out that they sit outside that play every other weekend and talk with people about what the Book of Mormon really has inside it. On this particular afternoon they brought with them 160 books and only had one left. I felt so proud! I regretted not taking there picture or video and sending it to their parents or something but maybe I will see them again while I am here!
Something that I love about the streets of London is all the energy. On this particular day there was so much going on on every corner. We stopped and watched these Albanian boys break dance for a good 15 minutes and they were seriously the most adorable thing. We of course picked out the best looking one, in this case Purple Shirt and just couldn't stop laughing. We actually saw him later on that night again and talked to him and it was just all one big joke on the American girls pretty much.
Since it was the Fourth of July we wanted to do something that seemed patriotic and so we just went to "Shake Shack".. it seems to be so American so that is where we ended up. I wore a blue and white stripped dress with red salt water sandals and a white hat... I love America and celebrating our freedoms so i think that this was most likely the first day that i started to feel homesick. Obviously London is the most amazing city and I never want to leave this adventure but seriously God Bless America, we have life so so good.
For the rest of the night half of us stayed out and just kind of messed around, Buckingham Palace, riding the lions in Trafalgar Square (which is harder than you could imagine) and getting offered drugs. That was weird.
Anyways, i came home that day completely warn out and exhausted because as you can tell we had a huge day. But i felt so thankful that there were still fireworks going off in this country to celebrate.
We all stood out on the fire escape to enjoy the beauty!
Sincerely,
Mackenzie
What an awesome day!
